The annual topic of “Green Waterpark” was also the focus of the participants in this year’s last face-to-face seminar, which took place at the IST University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf. In his introductory presentation, Markus Tressel (pictured), a long-standing member of the German Bundestag and chairman of the parliament’s tourism committee, emphasised that the necessary response to climate change is not only a challenge but also an opportunity for the waterpark industry.

Sebastian Neuhaus from Krieger Architekten, Rainer Braun from Aquarena, Frank Bienkowski from m+-consult, Dr Erich Merkle from Gridparity AG and Jochen Hamburger from Georg Fischer Piping Systems Ltd then showed how the pool industry can improve its carbon footprint. The spectrum of potential savings described ranged from the recycling of building materials, renewable energy sources and photovoltaic roofing for car parks, slide insulation and the use of bio-based plastics to impressive optimisation potential through improved control technology.
